The Senshi
Senshi are humans who can transform into magical warriors. There are two types of senshi in Sailor Myth, Mythic Senshi and Celestial Senshi. Mythic Senshi are gods, goddesses, and angels. Celestials are based on stars, planets, and other space stuff.
Senshi do not have any memory of past lives. They may display natural talents related to their senshi powers, but they do not have any magic powers unless in senshi form.

Mythic Senshi
Long ago, humans imbued with special powers appeared in various cultures across the world. Revered as gods for their incredible abilities, these individuals became the stuff of myth and legend. Contrary to the stories, these "gods" were not immortal -- they perished, their gifts seemingly lost to time.
Until now. For an unknown reason, these dead gods are returning in the form of average civilians gifted with the powers of their mythological predecessors. This new generation of gods are known as senshi, warriors who fight to restore their pantheon to its former glory -- at any cost. The modern senshi are much weaker than the myths of old and must rely on guardians or (in exceptional cases) traumatic events to awaken their latent abilities.

Celestial Senshi
Lacking in the shared history of their mythic counterparts, the Celestial Senshi have a great deal to learn if they wish to survive the coming senshi war. Celestial Senshi draw their power from heavenly objects, everything from asteroids and comets to galaxies. What isn't clear is where they came from or why they even exist, but surely these are mysteries that will be solved in time. For now, only one thing is clear: like all the other senshi teams, they are drawn to the power of the shards.
The Modern Senshi
Senshi transform through the use of magical relics obtained from guardians. (For those rare cases in which powers are awakened without a guardian, transformation cannot be controlled until a relic from a guardian is obtained.) In addition to powerful spells and magical garments, senshi have partial immunity to nonmagical damage while transformed. Some senshi experience physical or mental changes in senshi form; on extremely rare occasions, some of these changes may carry over to their civilian identities.
While transformed, senshi are cloaked by magic which prevents them from being readily identified as their civilian forms. You could be staring your own brother in the face and be none the wiser. This magic extends to recorded media, but can be broken by witnessing a transformation. Being told someone's identity doesn't break the magic, but obviously anyone who can understand A = B won't have any trouble rectifying the knowledge.
All senshi and guardians can sense when there are transformed senshi nearby.
If senshi from different pantheons happen to be in close proximity (even when not transformed!) they may sense the appearance of a shard in the area. If you do sense a shard, suit up and prepare to battle for control of it.
If several senshi from a team manage to attain enough power, it may be possible for them to unite and create a new pantheon, reclaiming their full, godlike powers and ushering in a new golden age. (There is also a chance that senshi from different teams might be able to link up and join this effort, but don't count on it.)
