City University of New York
A network of colleges throughout New York City, CUNY provides educational services to nearly half a million students, the majority of whom are minorities. The eleven senior colleges have admissions standards, but students who fail to meet these standards can instead begin their higher education at one of the six community colleges to earn a place at one of the senior schools. CUNY also features several specialized schools in areas including Law, Journalism, Medicine, and also offers postgraduate degrees.

Also located in Greenwich Village, The New School is a highly progressive university noted for its student-driven curriculum which does not require general education courses. It is primarily known for its arts programs and includes noted art and design college Parsons.
